The Crew

 Tinnitus can help save lives
Local rock band "Tinnitus" raised £300 for the Dart lifeboat with a concert at the British Legion. Squiff on drums alongside Ed and Poms on guitars, are all volunteers on the local RNLI lifeboat crew. The other members are Dan on guitar with Gavin as lead singer.
The eclectic collection of rock covers was a resounding success - but with a name like "Tinnitus" you would expect that!
The band will be performing outside the "Cherub" at 2:30 on Saturday 17th May, as part of the Dartmouth Music Festival.

The Inspection on the 17th and 18th of January led by Tom Mansell, who has recently been promoted to Training Divisional Inspector, went very well. Training on Tuesday evenings will take place in the Lifeboat Station at present, starting with a revision class on First Aid at sea led by Haydn Glanvill, Paramedic and crewmember.

Training at the RNLI Lifeboat College at Poole continues, with further helmsmen and members of the crew attending five day helmsmen courses.

The D class lifeboat requires a three person crew so a minimum of twelve enrolled crew members are needed. Most D class stations have twenty to twentyfive crew members, all are volunteers with full time jobs and commitments. As calls can come at any time many would be unavailable, hence the need for a large pool of trained crew.

At Dartmouth we are fortunate. To date, there are twentyfour volunteers, of both genders, with a variety of backgrounds, from full time watermen, part time yachtsmen, leisure water users to dedicated and committed novices. Their trades include boat builders and finishers, lifeguards, harbour board operators, commercial yachtmasters and also members of local rowing and sailing clubs.
Confidence is high, we have the right people with the skills and commitment to develop and 'man' a 1st rate lifeboat station in Dartmouth.

The crew volunteers now meet informally between 6pm and 7pm on Tuesday evenings, at the Lifeboat Station. Tuesday evening is also one of the two crew training nights.
